George R.R. Martin's Kid's Book 'Ice Dragon' Getting Made Into Animated Movie

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin meets with readersAfter conquering television with "Game of Thrones," George R.R. Martin is moving on to animation.

The author has made a deal with the Warner Animation Group to adapt his 1980 children's novel "The Ice Dragon" for the big screen.

Martin will act as a producer and possibly — possibly — even write the script. Of course, that would probably not sit well with fans of his books, who've been waiting seven years for "The Winds of Winter" (which won't be published this year or maybe ever).

"The Ice Dragon" is unrelated to his "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels. It follows a young girl named Adara who secretly befriends a mythic Ice Dragon. When another breed of dragons invade her land, the girl and her friend are the only ones who can stop them and save everyone.

Though "Winds of Winter" has been delayed, Martin is releasing a historical tale titled "Fire and Blood," about the Targaryen family. The author is also involved with the "Game of Thrones" spinoffs that HBO has been developing. The eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" is slated to debut sometime next year.
