George Clooney in Talks For Next Directorial Project, 'Echo'

Someone get George Clooney a director's chair with his name on it, because the actor/director/producer is eyeing his next project.

Deadline reports Clooney is in early talks to direct "Echo," a sci-fi thriller scripted by Christopher MacBride ("The Conspiracy"). The story centers on a CIA drone specialist who experiences a psychological crisis when he starts suspecting his wife is not who she appears to be and that she possibly may have been replaced.

The project is being produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps production company, which is behind "Arrival" and Netflix's "Stranger Things."

Clooney, of course, started off as an actor but moved into directing with 2002's "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and 2005's "Good Night, and Good Luck." He most recently directed last year's "Suburbicon" starring Matt Damon and is directing two episodes of Hulu's limited series adaptation of "Catch-22."

While he often stars in the movies he directs, he did not appear in "Suburbicon" and there's no word on whether he'll act in "Echo."
